Black beat Gold, 9-5, to win the Mizzou Fall World Series three games to one.
Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea who this pitcher is. There is no No. 13 on any current MU roster, and there was no box score for the game. I’m posting it here simply because I think it’s cool, but for all practical (read: portfolio) purposes, the photo is useless if I can’t caption it. This is one of those instances where quality of light absolutely makes a photo work. Pitchers wind up and go through this motion about a combined 250 times each game. Normally, I won’t even shoot the windup, and instead focus on getting a frame of the pitcher with the ball just coming off his fingertips. I tried that here too, but with this light, by the time Mystery Pitcher released the ball, his entire body was dark and in shadow.

Silver Spring-Takoma's Matthew Greene slides under the tag of Herndon's Chris Taylor. Taylor hit a first inning grand slam, leading the Braves past the Thunderbolts 9-4 at Blair Stadium on July 1.
I know, I know, this composition is almost identical to the last baseball photo I posted, sorry. I can’t help that all the action seems to take place around third base. Anyway, I was on the phone with Chris about 30 seconds before taking this and she told me to “take good shots.” Turns out this was the best one from the game. Thanks Chris!

Redbirds pitcher Mike Thomas slaps a tag on the Thunderbolts' Curtis Wilson
In my spare evenings (which I seem to have a lot of) I’ll head up to Blair Stadium and shoot a game for the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League. I’ve been doing this for three years now, and while you’d think it would get boring after awhile, there’s just something pure and innocently charming about summer wooden bat leagues that keeps me going back, even when the home team is in last place.
