Double Walk-off

Jonah Schmidt (25), celebrates at home plate with Brannon Champagne (6), who scored on a Blake Brown walk-off single in the 9th inning.
Definitely an exciting afternoon on the diamonds today. Both the MU baseball and softball teams picked up wins in dramatic fashion. Baseball snapped a nine-game losing streak, and softball eked out a win made possible by Chelsea Thomas’ 17-strikeout outing.
It was awesome to finally get some nice light for a baseball game. Everything else I’ve shot this year has either been under noon sunlight, clouds, or under the lights. To have some dynamic shadows and warm light was a welcome change, and I tried to make the most of it. The photo of Matt Stites pitching was an attempt at revisiting a similar composition I used for a shot of Aaron Crow in one of the first Mizzou baseball games I photographed back in 2008. The stadium has undergone significant renovations since then, so the background today is not as clean, but I like the light better.

Catcher Megan Christopher celebrates with teammates after Abby Vock's walk-off home run that lifted the Tigers to a 3-2 win over Oklahoma.

Pitcher Matt Stites had a strong outing for the Tigers, with seven strikeouts in six innings.

Blake Brown gets tied up with Kansas second baseman Kaiana Eldredge while attempting a steal.

Pitcher Phil McCormick picked up the win, with 2.2 scoreless innings to close out the game.

Conner Mach is hit by a pitch in the bottom of the 8th inning.
